STRASBOURG The President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Miguel Angel Martinez, states at the press conference. - Mr. NANO’s case is a matter that concerns us... ...in fact, the trial against Fatos Nano had several political elements and several anti-legal elements.
On the penultimate day of the work of the summer session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, yesterday evening, A. Morell decided that the “Nano case” should be included in yesterday afternoon’s session. In the evening session yesterday, an amendment submitted by the Committee on Relations with the Albanian Parliament was presented, which envisaged condemning Albania for failing to meet standards and recommended that the Bureau of the Assembly consider the possibility of setting up an inquiry commission. Along with the amendment, another resolution and a recommendation authored by Italian deputies from the left-wing group as well as Russian socialists had been tabled, calling for Albania to be placed under strict Assembly scrutiny. Against the background of these developments there was much inaccurate speculation, including the news broadcast in the main news program of TVSH about an Assembly vote against Albania. It was perhaps misunderstood, or perhaps this news was distorted. What is the truth?
Yesterday afternoon, the President of the Council of Europe Assembly, Miguel Angel Martinez, spoke at length at the press conference about the “Nano case” and gave his own assessment. The journalist from “Zëri i Popullit” asked: “Is there any resolution, vote, condemnation, or recommendation by the Council of Europe Assembly against Albania or its session on the ‘Nano’ case?” President Martinez replied:
“I would say that there has not been an Assembly resolution, despite the fact that this issue has been raised as a current matter. It has been discussed very heatedly. There have been different opinions, and some political views. I followed the discussion very carefully. Mr. Nano’s case is a matter that concerns us because we consider the justice system to be part of a country’s democratic system. If there is a failure in the justice system, this shows that democracy is not functioning properly. Therefore we are very interested in the Nano case. Have we voted on anything here? No. Neither the plenary session, nor any committee, nor the bureau has voted on a resolution or any recommendation. So there has been no vote. It was not even on the Assembly’s agenda. There have been some procedures in the Albanian Parliament and naturally the Assembly has the right to be interested in this issue. We will follow it very closely. We will follow it with interest and care, but not judge it ourselves”.
Martinez later told journalists: “I am following the ‘Nano’ case with very special attention. I think there is deep concern about the fact that he continues to be in prison. This concern relates to the procedures followed against him, which raise serious doubts regarding the fairness of the process. There are many questions regarding respect for the law and democratic norms. But I cannot say that these are the Assembly’s final conclusions, because there are none. They are assessments expressed in discussions”.
The Conference on Foreign Investment Concluded
On Friday, the Foreign Investment Conference for Albania concluded, organized under the patronage of the Swiss government, in cooperation with representatives of the Albanian government, with the participation of more than 60 influential businessmen interested in Albania.
In the conference hall, with broad and high-quality participation by foreign businessmen, Prime Minister Meksi, in an almost one-hour presentation, laid out Albania’s full economic potential and the favorable conditions for investors. He underlined that the Albanian government is undertaking a clear policy of economic reforms, monetary and fiscal stability, and an open climate for foreign capital. According to him, Albania offers low-cost labor, natural resources, a favorable geographic position, and a growing market.
Prime Minister Meksi expressed his conviction that with the reform of the Albanian economy and the gradual entry of the country into European structures, foreign investment will become a key factor in future development. He invited foreign entrepreneurs to come to Albania and take advantage of opportunities in industry, tourism, transport, energy, and other fields.
The conference was considered a positive step in creating a better image for Albania in international markets and in encouraging concrete business contacts.
Why was the brother of the two martyrs insulted?

Why was the brother of the two martyrs insulted?
“Whom to choose...” this is what the brother of the Kukës inauguration heard[?]
Again and not by chance! These days, on the eve of the election campaign, many “VIPs” of the PD are touring from village to village and from town to town, with flattering language, endless promises, and numerous escorts. This also happened on 20 June this year in the city of Kukës, where Sali Berisha, Tritan Shehu and other senior representatives of the government went for the inauguration of several buildings. However, instead of the ceremony taking place with the proper seriousness and calm, there were improper and provocative episodes.
One of them was the insult directed at the brother of two martyrs of the homeland, who was present at the ceremony. According to witnesses, a local official addressed him with contemptuous words and in an imperious tone, seriously undermining his dignity and the memory of his sons who fell for the country’s freedom. This act caused indignation among those present and raised the question: why should a man carrying such pain and honor be insulted?
Instead of an apology, the incident was passed over in silence by the organizers. This has increased the anger of the family members and the honest citizens of Kukës even more. Respect for the martyrs cannot be desecrated for electoral interests or for the arrogance of power.
Who is responsible for this behavior? Will anyone give explanations? Or will everything be closed with silence, as with many other cases?
Accusation against the police officers
Due to local governance and police work, serious concerns have emerged in several areas of the country. In various districts, citizens complain about arbitrary behavior, failure to respect procedures, and unnecessary use of force. In some cases, according to complaints received by the editorial office, police officers have exceeded their legal powers and exerted pressure on citizens.
These concerns require immediate verification and institutional accountability. The competent authorities must investigate every case impartially and ensure that public order is maintained without infringing human rights.
The trial of Ramiz Alia is postponed.
Yesterday at the Court of Appeals
At 9:00 a.m. in the Tirana Court of Appeals, the criminal case against former president Ramiz Alia (Bajrami), former member of the Political Bureau Hekuran Isai, former deputy prime minister Simon Stefani, former deputy minister of the Interior Xhule Çiraku, former head of the Tirana Internal Affairs Branch Mihallaq Ziçishti, and former general Veli Llakaj, accused of “genocide” and “crimes against humanity,” was scheduled to begin yesterday.
However, the hearing was postponed before it started. The reason was the absence of one of the members of the trial panel and the need to complete the case file with several procedural documents. According to the court notice, the new hearing date will be set after the relevant actions have been carried out.
Relatives, media representatives, and citizens interested in the progress of the proceedings were present in the courtroom. The postponement was met with various comments, while attention remains focused on the continuation of this trial with political and historical resonance.
Supporters of the Socialist Party are dismissed

On 41[?] May, from a meeting of a neighborhood organization and several villages on the issue of the village, given that the employment of citizens is being used as a tool of political pressure, concerns were raised about dismissals from work and politically motivated replacements. According to the complaint, several people have been dismissed or transferred solely because of their political beliefs or their closeness to the Socialist Party.
This phenomenon is emerging as a form of administrative pressure on citizens on the eve of elections and has created a climate of insecurity in workplaces. Citizens demand that the administration not be used as a party instrument and that employment be based on law and merit.
